Internationally Acclaimed Miniatures Debut in HK Art X AR Brings Amazing Breakthrough “Feature of HK – CNY Miniature Exhibition @ Olympian City”
25-01-2018
Not to be Missed! HK’s Biggest Miniature Exhibition

The largest miniature exhibition in Hong Kong ever! 20 artists from the Hong Kong Joyful Miniature Association come together at “Feature of HK – CNY Miniature Exhibition @ Olympian City”, where the city’s quintessential Chinese New Year celebration finds a masterfully crafted expression in miniature art pieces. Among the 52 exhibits are art pieces met with tremendous success touring Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan and overseas (Including Tokyo, Osaka, Sydney, Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Quiyang, Jinan and Taipei, etc). An astonishing portion of nearly 1/3 of the total exhibits are specially made for the exhibition/shown in Hong Kong for the very first time! Mr. Sunny Yeung Kwong, Executive Director of Sino Land Company Limited and Mr. Duncan PESCOD, GBS, JP, Chief Executive Officer of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority officiated the opening ceremony today.

Mr. Sunny Yeung Kwong said, “Olympian City has been keen on enriching life with technology. With this in mind, AR technology (Augmented Reality) has been applied to the highlighted pieces. By adding dynamic elements to the otherwise static scenes, the exhibition marks an innovative milestone in the development of miniature art.”

“I am a small collector of miniature pieces and am always astounded by the workmanship and detail that is displayed. Having a miniature of the West Kowloon Bamboo Theatre is exciting and gives me a particularly strong interest in this special exhibition. This exhibition is not only a showcase of talent but also celebrates creativity and culture.” said Mr. Duncan Pescod, Chief Executive Officer of WKCDA.

Brand New Miniature Art Piece Art x AR Brings Amazing Breakthrough
Of all the eye-catching pieces, Lee Tung Avenue (利東街), Tai O Heritage Hotel (大澳文物酒店), Tai O Stilt House (大澳棚屋) and Downsizing (縮水人間), which echoes to the movie now on show, are tailor-made for the exhibition. More than 10 pieces are either shown publicly for the first time in Hong Kong or revamped with additional Chinese New Year elements. They include Blessed Longevity (但願人長久), Sunset in Lei Yue Mun (夕照鯉魚門), Corner of Flower Market (花墟一角), Embroidered Slippers Shop (金記繡花拖鞋), West Kowloon Bamboo Theatre (西九大戲棚), Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree (林村許願樹)、Hung Fat Cake Shop《鴻發鬆糕店》、Road to the countryside (鄉郊路上) and Business Flourishing (大展鴻圖). Together, the exquisitely crafted exhibits form a breathtaking downsized world that captures the unique personality of Hong Kong, from its urban vibes and lifestyle to tourist attractions, and from festivals, heritage to architecture. All the essences that have made Hong Kong such an amazing place are featured prominently in this immersive exhibition, seen from the angle of Gulliver!

In addition, equipped with a smart phone or a pair of smart glasses, visitors can watch up-close the mini ceremonial lion dance in Lee Tung Avenue (利東街), people throwing joss paper onto Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree (林村許願樹) and tourists busy with capturing the stunning scenery in Blessed Longevity (但願人長久). Interested visitors can also discover more on the creation of each piece in a guided tour powered by the latest MAD Gaze gadget.

Be Immersed in Nostalgic Atmosphere of Traditional Chinese New Year Celebration
Olympian City will travel back in time to present a slice of the city’s good old days with a nostalgic streetscape decked out in neon signs. Some of the miniature masterpieces, such as Traditional Household Utensils Shop (老金山貨) and Chinese New Year antithetical couplets – Hong Kong (揮春擋), are recreated in life size for visitors to soak in the warm and vivacious new year atmosphere in the past. Four movie posters painted by Yuen Tai Yung are hired from Hui’s Brothers Film Company, adding much to the exhibition. Moreover, a total of twelve demonstration sessions and workshops will be organized, in which participants can try their hands at the creation of thumb-size lanterns, festive flowers and foods. Mini-cooking will also be showcased in the mini kitchen to share culinary fun in an amusing style.

3D Red Packet First Invented by Olympian City
Chinese New Year without red packet is unimaginable! Olympian City is proud to present the first 3D red packet inspired by the "piggy bank" in Traditional Household Utensils Shop (老金山貨). Included in a complete set of 8 "piggy bank" red packets are 2 "little pigs", whose body can be stretched to form a "piggy bank". Pull the "gold coin" out of its slit, scan the QR code and you will get a fortune forecast. Meanwhile, another 3D red packet set combines the traditional "Auspicious Lion" with modern design elements. As with the “piggy bank” set, 2 of the 8 “lion” red packets come with a stretchable body that makes them an adorable 3D table decoration.
